While talking to Joe Veillette I discovered that he had one very large piece of Brazilian Rosewood, large enough to make an Acoustic 5 String Bass. Of course, I just HAD to commission a build using this rare opportunity for a large piece of Brazilian Rosewood. Joe Veillette purchased this Brazilian from well-known luthier Michael Gurian in 1978 at which point the wood was already approximately 70-100 years old.

I opted for an ebony fingerboard and bridge to help keep the bass bright and defined, Sitka Spruce Top, flame maple binding and arm bevel (sexy and functional!), side sound port to release more low end frequencies, and 32" scale 5-string tuned E to hi C for ultra playability and comfortability.
