The Story

1963 Guild Duane Eddy DE-500 Blonde

Our in-house guitar repair technician took numerous photos of the exterior and interior details of this guitar, as well as blacklight photos. We can not attach all of them to this listing given photo upload limits on selling sites. Please contact us if you are interested in the guitar and would like to see all of the photos we took.

Weight: 7.1lbs

Case: Original Hardshell Case

Year: 1963

Cosmetic Condition: Guitar is in very good condition.  There is a bit of checking around the edges of the top as well as a good amount of general scratching and wear throughout the entire guitar.  There are some scratches on the back of the guitar as well as some oxidation on the hardware to be expected from a guitar of this era.

SETUP & INSPECTED BY OUR LUTHIER

Tech Notes: Stellar piece from 1963.  We set this up with D’Addario 11-49 strings. The guitar plays great with medium action and near flat relief. The guitar holds tune even with movement on the bigsby.  We are not noticing any fret buzz as it plays cleanly up and down the neck at medium action.  The electronics are all perfectly functional after a proper cleaning. The potentiometer codes read 1963 and 1961, the serial number aligns to 1963, this verifies the date.  The frets appear to be original, they are very low (from the factory fretless wonder style), and have a mild amount of wear that doesn’t appear to hinder playability at all.  There is no wear on the fretboard.  The body shows no signs of damage under normal or black lighting.  I see no evidence of finish touchup or hidden repairs under blacklight. No hardware or electronics have been replaced, the guitar is completely stock.  However two screws appear to be slightly out of place, and those are photo’d (pickguard screw and bottom most tailpiece mount screw). The neck angle is right on and the neck joint is strong and stable showing zero signs of movement.  The guitar has some wear underneath the saddle/bridge  from movement over the years of people intonating it without loosening string tension and sliding the metal piece. The tuners move freely and easily while holding tune as they should.
